Neolithic Will Audition For Pegasus World Cup Wednesday At Gulfstream

Neolithic has been installed as the even-money favorite in Wednesday's featured ninth race at Gulfstream Park, scheduled to face 10 rivals in a $43,000 allowance that may well lead to bigger things for the son of Harlan's Holiday.

The son of Harlan's Holiday, who finished second in the Discovery (G3) at Aqueduct in his stakes debut in his most recent race, is owned by Starlight Racing, one of 12 stakeholders with a berth in the $12 million Pegasus World Cup (G1), as well as the $400,000 Poseidon, Jan. 28 at Gulfstream Park.
“Starlight owns a gate, so we'll see how he runs on Wednesday,” trainer Todd Pletcher said.
Neolithic will be no stranger to the Gulfstream Park surface, over which he broke his maiden at the 1 1/16-mile distance of Wednesday's feature last December. After a break, the late-developing colt finished second in a twice in three starts against older horses before being equipped with blinkers and sent around two-turns for the first time since breaking his maiden for a start in the Discovery Nov. 12. After bumping at the start, Neolithic pressed the pace set by eventual winner Sticksstatelydude before settling for second place, 2 ¼ lengths ahead of third-place finisher My Man Sam.
“I think he's a better horse than his form suggests,” Pletcher said. “That's why we ran him in the Discovery even though he's still eligible for a one-other-than (allowance).”
Javier Castellano has been named to ride Neolithic, who drew the No. 1 post position.
