Jockey Hector Del-Cid Suffers Fractured Pelvis, Dislocated Hip In Delta Spill

In the first race at Delta Downs on Tuesday, jockey Hector Del-Cid was involved in an incident requiring that he be transported to the hospital. Reports from the track announcer, Don Stevens, indicate that Del-Cid was conscious and talking in the ambulance. He was able to move his arms and legs, but complained of lower back pain.
Mounted on the number one horse, Layla Forever, Del-Cid made the lead right out of the gate in the five-furlong contest. Rounding the turn for home with a three-length lead, the 2-year-old filly appeared to shy suddenly and jumped into the inside rail, unseating Del-Cid. The filly, trained by Michael Antwine, appeared unharmed as she galloped out with the rest of the field.
According to Equibase, Del-Cid began his career in 2014 and has racked up 112 wins from 1,196 starts.
Del-Cid's agent, Jordan Gatlin, later reported on Twitter that the jockey had been diagnosed with a fractured pelvis that would require surgery. His hip was also dislocated in the fall.
