Jockey Bryce Alderson is hospitalized in serious but stable condition at St. Joseph's Trauma Center following a spill at Tampa Bay Downs during Wednesday's fourth race. Alderson was aboard longshot Expialidocious when his mount clipped heels with rival Squeakers Shadow, who drifted out in the stretch.
A stewards' inquiry after the race resulted in the disqualification of Squeakers Shadow, piloted by Huber Villa-Gomez, from fifth place to tenth place for interference. Expialidocious was uninjured, according to Tampa Bay's media relations department.
A multiple stakes winning-rider, 24-year-old Alderson has been riding since 2011, and has a record this year of 11 wins from 190 starts. He is a native of Fort Erie, Ontario.
